A new series of paintings seeks to get under the skin of modern Shanghai, capturing not the bombastic and the cliched but instead the highly individual- a fleeting moment, a reflex action or a brief conversation. It deconstructs the constant interaction of human in this vast city, breaking the complexities of life down into mere scraps of time or fractions of memories.
Gary.Tan KF's latest series ( a small series) combines
his interest with the intimate and immediate with a playful commentary on the plethora of people inhabiting China most arresting and riotous city. Continuing his signature use of bold colours and evocative subtext, his work convey his ever-present struggle for discovery alongside new and potent explorations of sensuality and a biting sense of humour.
